France will celebrate the "Year of Mexico" with many events taking place in all its regions, which aim at revealing the various facets of this country whose rich past has a valuable historical heritage, and who has an important cultural and touristic heritage.
There is no doubt that such an event will foster cooperation and development of economic ties between France and Mexico.
So the French will take note of some 250 events that make up the program of festivities throughout France during the next twelve months in many fields: crafts, tourism, arts, culture, literature, gastronomy, new technologies and cinema at the Cannes Festival in 2011 ...
This event will also be an opportunity to allow the French to discover the different regions of Mexico in terms of tourism. Thereby, it is a great opportunity to discover parts of this fascinating country, such as the peninsula of Baja California, one of the states of Mexico which strongly contrasts with other regions, and which has preserved its authenticity and its natural and wild side.
This State of Mexico, relatively unknown to French tourists, north-west of the country and adjacent to the U.S., consists of a long narrow strip of land of 807.78 miles between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.
In its many lagoons and protected marine sanctuaries, gray whales come by thousands every year, take a break from December to March to mate and give birth to their calves.
This phenomenon is one of many curiosities which characterized the peninsula of Baja California. Blank and its tracts wild, its giant cacti and spectacular canyons make an original destination, far from the beaten tracks.
This region of Mexico has known some touristic success in the last years and has luckily managed to control its expansion by developing a rational and responsible tourism which is for all lovers of authentic and preserved nature.
Remember that a large part of the peninsula of Baja California is now made up of protected areas and classified as World Heritage by Unesco, including its 244 islands and islets in the Sea of Cortez in particular.
The biosphere protected area of Vizcaino located in the central desert, home to endemic plants and animals.
